NH-NL Germany - the First Ever!

The following email is from Vladimir D - a trader in Brazil who was the first trader in the world, to our knowledge, to create NH-NL for a non-US market. Now, with an assist from Rodryk S, he has added Germany to the list of countries for which NH-NL can be seen. Congratulations and thanks! - Alex Elder

I am happy to say that fortunately I did build a robust system to plot Brazilian NH-NL: due to this robustness, I could follow Rodryk index suggestion and build a German NH-NL, as he requested, using all the structure already used with the Brazilian index. The hard job was already done with the Brazilian index.
Rodryk efficiently told me what are the important indexes from German, along with the stocks used to build each one.
Most stock symbols yet needed to be found in Yahoo finance symbol specific language and an Access table from Brazilian index helped grouping and finding them for German stocks.
Technical Issues
The manipulation of large amount of data is still an issue, and I can no longer rely on Excel sheets only to build the index. The last single-sheet-way-to-build file is already with Rodryk. For now I am using two Excel files together with an Access database to manage the data. Code is needed, using Excel built-in capabilities, to manipulate the data instead of manually doing it in Access, which frequently freezes even my modern (but domestic) new computer.
(Didn't forget to Trade)
My goal is to trade – this does not change. I want to gift Mr. Elder showing him improving stock trading capabilities, being able to blame him for this priceless learning (and happiness!).
Other countries!
If we can make the system work with other countries' indexes, it would be a waste of resources to not use it to build more indexes for other countries. If you find any index important to deserve a NH-NL (if it does not exist yet), I will happily try to build it with the hard job already done for Brazil.

FTSE100, Dow Jone Stoxx 600?
Rodryk has already suggested FTSE100 – "As a next step, I would suggest to do a NH-NL index also for the FTSE100." And, finally, Dow Jones Stoxx 600 – "Once both Germany and FTSE100 are up and running, well, there might be one last step I would suggest to go: Dow Jones Stoxx 600, which covers Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and the United Kingdom. (I would do the list of the 600 stocks.)".
The bright side
I really want to join your group as an experienced trader, but for now I am fully satisfied to act as a sort of technician and listen to your valuable indexes suggestions, as Rodryk is already doing with very clear arguments. You should only be warned that I will explore the opportunity to learn from each of your arguments, including Rodryk's well formulated ones.
Final automation
Naturally I will try to reach a lot of automation to run these NH-NL building machine. But I work on the 20-80% concept, in this case firstly I pursuit to show a good usable chart (80% of the goal with 20% of the effort) – this is done for German. Then, calmly, I will improve the system with the major goal to automate it a lot, making it run alone as soon as (and if) possible.
Above all
Above all this technical stuff is my goal to join you guys from the stock trader's side.
Though, I would never let go an early opportunity to supply information to the brilliant heads of the group.
If I found out myself being able to help on this detail, I will do it with great pleasure, happiness and always in debt to all knowledge received.
You know I have special gratefulness for Mr Elder teaching System, this yes a great, kind, effective system. I should buy trucks with bottles of wine for that.
Try to forgive the length of this e-mail,
Thanks!,
Vladimir D

  1. Valdimir,
Thank you so much for this work. I think it is extremely helpful when reviewing the world's markets. With all due respect to Rodryk--I think the FTSE 100 is the probably the world's leading index, so I think that should be the next one. However, my sense is that this tool would be much more helpful when applied to the emerging markets, since they are probably a little less efficient. I'm anxious to see how it does with Brazil's market over time.

  2. Grant,
We are completely aligned: I suggested to do the FTSE 100 first and the DJStoxx 600 afterwards. - I apologize if my message got across differently.
    Regards,
    Rodryk
